too kool for skool

The first day of school was almost like christmas for me growing up. I had planned my "first day of school outfit" (and embarrassed to admit, every outfit for the first two weeks). I had new backstreet boys folders, squeaky white tennis shoes, and a new jansport back pack. My hair all curled and I'd go skipping away to the bus stop...

Not this year.

This year Broc and I didn't know our class schedules until 11pm the night before. I walked out the door in the first shirt I saw hanging up and all I had was a pen buried deep down in my purse that I had to dig for in every class. Spending money on text books instead of new overalls and dr. martins has not been an easy transition for me over the years.

Nonetheless, we are grateful to be back in the swing of things. Didn't you know my favorite thing to do at night is homework?? Hopefully you can taste the sarcasm. That is why I am writing on this blog and procrastinating studying for Art History (which I believe will be the death of me). But I justify it with this quote... "the work you do while you procrastinate is probably the work you should be doing for the rest of your life". Okay okay so my homework isn't near as bad as Broc's I'll admit.

Here is our first night back to studying...

I also procrastinate by eating sandwiches

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAKoV-kR_Gj-HHpvKlQ8poQXEdawPQDG2QmFLr1cxChN8v3xOKOaF3ESbopIEya37x7VKdYDsxtISFHeTHB87qvwQtIIzvFs_sdVjJMQVV9r1ltN5d_7RdCxlHfIDEHNSRN6_cm6M40TG2/s1600/IMG_3027.jpg
Okay Broc just might freak if he looks up from his book and sees me blogging so I'm just going to go to the kitchen and peel my hard boiled egg, maybe edit a few pictures on photoshop and then attempt to start studying. promise.

Meet the Fam Bam

For those who don't know, I have a family named Kalamity.
There are eleven ridiculously talented lady sisters
two incredibly sick brothers
and one hot mama Tia.
I consider us blood related because of all the blood, sweat, and tears that we leave on the Vault floor in those 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. practices.
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWyJSPeb4tifll3CBNKERqTIGXsBLZ2NnHJVsQAjlTTBkjLzeabIvnifs0rnh_vFf9QRS71LtJttsHKcug99nVfLodL2IaZz-DwqKcvSqay2qTPdquzD2aGc8jo1X78-o2aWFQ0_Hr3CME/s1600/284415_10150319800840991_364925505990_9837568_5522700_n.jpg

We try our hardest to"leave a mark and make it dark"

When Kalamity first started 4 years ago it seemed quite impossible at the beginning to think that we could ever make a difference with just a few girls, some converse shoes and a stereo.
We started in a room at Golds Gym, moved (and got kicked out) from 3 different studios and 2 different garages.
It seemed impossible to even get enough viewers (beside just our families) to put on a whole concert.
It seemed impossible to raise enough money to help our sista Tif battle through cancer.
It all just seemed quite impossible.
But...

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing."
David Beckham

We now have raised over $20,000 for families in need

We have a home, "The Vault"

We've put on multiple concerts with packed audiences

We are dancing with Utah's top 8 dance companies next week in SLC

Impossible is nothing for Kalamity.
check it out! We're on the news!↑↑↑↑

Even though we're married, we still like dating

The last couple weeks Broc has asked me on a few dates and I've asked him on some as well. We've been to Durangos (which pretty much asks like our second dining room because of how much we go), Outback, Pizza Factory, Tuacahn, the new carousel, the dollar movie...
It's awesome to have the same boy on every date for the rest of forever. Love my Mr. Hafen.

And let me put a little plug in for the The Little Mermaid at Tuacahn. AMAZING.

The 4th.

This year we spent the 4th of July with our families. We had a big BBQ with Broc's family and then went to Grandma Wade's to of course take this fabulous photo...
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8nIxPu9U4D9Il7ZlHiJH73jVIELdCBQXx1hPFLXoZfFnkt9In3arzgKRTDsa-ko366MwR9WMNKDNwle0BPODZnHrda_hrgAAfYL48p0BSLxAzR8WUYpQBJvypJ1D3kli1krAFAfOcIUIF/s1600/IMG_2573.jpg

Then we got a front row seat at the floodstreet theater parking lot to watch the fireworks
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg55Wa7lGLGfZTLRT1iAviLWOjpcV5Lx620Zs02PrHc8wBvGX5_tD2QAdpk6FshyphenhyphenQj11s0aUxDGkOuajZSAA56imsYKOFpVeHWE531VEZImsL04sstwnAqL_BpIRwtaAOSTmN2lp1Z_-llQ/s1600/2011-07-04+22.10.03.jpg

July 5th was the Annual America celebration at the Carlsons. Every year we (and by "we" I mean Broc and all his friends) buy a bunch of illegal fireworks,
and Tyler's parents cook us an amazing BBQ.
I don't think that I could say it any better than our friend Colton
"July 4th is for celebrating America. July 5th is for celebrating Americans. What better way to do that than with a massive 100 ft. slip n' slide, a BBQ, and roman candle fights? GOD BLESS AMERICA, AND GOD BLESS AMERICANS!"

and this one doesn't keep your food cold, nor does it have an egg area.

When we came home from Hawaii last week, we found our fridge had turned into an oven while we were gone. I could have sworn someone died in our apartment by the smell and I don't think I've ever seen hamburger meat quite that shade of dark green.

The only thing that made me laugh was thinking about this video...

Giddy up!

Last weekend we went to the Gunlock rodeo to watch my brother Mitch in his first rodeo. He has been practicing roping with my grandpa for the last couple months. We were all pretty nervous for him because weighing in at 74 lbs. he could easily be pulled off the horse by a calf ha.
But with his new shiny belt buckle that he recently won at the Stock Show he had all the confidence in the world.
And he did Awesome!

And my Grandpa Stan and uncle Jeff didn't do so shabby
themselves winning the "open ropin" the first night!
Way to "git 'er done"

a he nani ke ao nei

I am a little bit behind on this. Mostly because I feel like ever since we've been home from our trip that we have been running around like chickens with our heads cut off, which made us sick and that is why I am writing about Hawaii in a bathrobe with hurting muscles and tissues next to me.
Okay enough about that because I have HAWAII to talk about!

Day 1: We drove to Vegas with my G&G Wade and Cindy because they were boarding a plane for D.C. (which was a little bitter sweet that we couldn't get on with them, Congrats Jordan and Laura!). Cindy and I watched Singin' in the Rain the whole way down. One of both of our favorite movies.

Then it was the long venture to Paradise.

We landed in Honolulu and a wall of humidity hit us in the face.
It was fantastic, atleast I thought so. Broc was amazed by all the plants in the airport.
He is a plant caretaker of the ones in the airport in St. George so he couldn't get over them.
We picked up our bright yellow rental car and headed to the Wadsworths (our awesome next door neighbors that recently moved to Kaneohe).

Day 2: We woke up extra early. Especially since we were still on Utah time and headed over to the Aloha Stadium swapmeet! Love that place. It wouldn't be a complete trip to Hawaii had we not come home with these Wade family favorite hawaiian sandals.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVJIR8mw41pjtUQPnh4AiwUHh7VrAPb82DnzBHVS7lXg462KPDdverb_Xzyjr_r5bEc0IkX7HIcMknqofzpsdAuDwcMaQLFArkzaACMYwjcmNFzHX_AyTu5Wko2dfZSmo1MxWvyDbWlM83/s1600/IMG_2058.JPG

Then we headed over to Pearl Harbor. It is such a sacred/haunting/incredible place. There were some real Pearl Harbor survivors there signing books. It was awesome. Broc especially loved it.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW-qhfUvV-PL1jWUg9DQdgnRLWV5drWvHCRwLRafZS9WBBDsCKkpBd_sTZLrh3T878kb9bSpUIrmJsIJNy3fq-MYH-gZjrf8J6M_9WE5FHQ6VN-C5LomDLepKz6tBZ8051x8H4CMbtJnFS/s1600/Hawaii.jpg

Then off to party in Waikiki. We even met up with Ashley at the Cheesecake factory! It had only been 3 weeks but I missed my sis.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXQoA3TltIICIL9lObhqk2F5b4mkG0KoVpSMx3Q53UDizej1ecFxyxFyGETEepA33LzQH3hM3fsfAlB0nLg77N7J-YOdjHduDeCiKSotTZh2VbdHK9MysXyanfmj40hJdz54PKDkTqatGH/s1600/IMG_2084.JPG

Day 3: Again woke up mondo early and drove to Hanauma Bay. I've had some traumatizing experiences here (stung by a jelly fish and another time cut up my whole leg on the reef) so we were determined to make this a good day. And it was. We followed a sea turtle for like half an hour. ha
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkXvnMh3Yt8FgADTXVha3LuH761bSAliwybOU54GhLVbNj_JOzBkBRcRjwstQtG29blTiECwdJVpQ1Yznf40z58TGR7201i0_F1dPpOe23KGT5qvoxLQv6NDevEr8I3Avj-Y8pkx7lOzgT/s1600/Hawaii1.jpg

From there we drove our way up to the North Shore, got settled at my Grandma's friend Moana's house, met up with Ashley, walked around the Turtle Bay resort and ate dinner at Kahuku grill. Side note: I'm now a huge fan of grilled pineapple on my burger.

Day 4: We ate breakfast at the famous Hukilau cafe (50 first dates). Then it was off to the Polynesian Cultural Center. The different villages were so much fun. One of the funniest parts of the day was when we were on the canoe tour and the tour guide was making all of his tour guide jokes. He asked everyone how to say "hi" in Hawaii. The Asian sitting next to me raised her hand and said "Hairow!" (hello). She was super confused when the tour guide said "uh...close...".

And Ashley met up with us for the luau and the night show

Day 5: Went to pounders. Got POUNDED. Must say that it's for sure one of my favorite beaches ever. Then we headed to Sunset beach and down to Halieva. We had a couple m.matsumoto shaved ice, stopped by the Dole Pineapple plantation and headed back to pounders with Ashley this time. Again got POUNDED. So. Fun.

Day 6: Sunday. We went to church with Ashley and her roommates and Broc and I took a little stroll around Laie. First to the temple and then to Hukilau.

Day 7: Sharks Cove super early. (Which was better than Hanauma in our opinion). The water is so clear and there are hundreds of fish. We actually saw two sea turtles this time. It was beautiful! We also headed over to sunset beach and enjoyed our last day in the sun.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHfCDmp3DALwwgRyqvvyoLS2ZkArOHxeHYWmp4wU9DWyekkNbVJyDDxzlbL9mrwH96JkdGX47tgwfB17l6HYKgh-BCJG_bRTu_q5WUED8_qK-qafgZrI-Zxob_Z5VzfEjkROKqK_M6ZwOB/s1600/Hawaii5.jpg

We said our goodbyes to Ash (which weren't fun). And said our goodbyes to the Hawaiian sun (also not fun). We woke up at 4 a.m. the next morning and made our way to the airport to head home. Aloha Hawaii. We will come see you again soon. Promise.

Happy Dad's Day!

We have the best dad's in the world. They have been the absolute best examples in our lives and we both don't know where we would be without them! Yesterday I gave my dad a foot massage underneath the dinner table as we ate. That alone should show how much I love that man. ha They really are the best and we hope they had the BEST FATHERS DAY EVER!

For Abby

Last night was the Dixie Rebels Semi-Pro Football game charity game for Abby Doman. Abby is a twelve year girl in need of a heart transplant. Last month Abby colapsed at her school and was without a pulse for over 7 minutes. The surgery will cost 1.5 million dollars and for a single mother of three, it is impossible to achieve alone. As a dancer for this football team, we knew that last nights game would be the biggest of the season, and it was. But at half time when we were told that we had only raised 2,500 from admissions, we knew we had to do more. Myself and the other dancers went through the bleachers asking for donations for Abby. I was amazed at how generous people were. Groups of teenagers would gather their money together before we even came and asked them for it and when one man handed me a $100 bill I got tears in my eyes. It was a successful night for the Doman family and the football team smashed their competition too. We were able to raise over $4,100 for Abby.

Count down..

Day 13: Count down to paradise.

We can HARDLY wait for the next two weeks to go by so we can join my sister Ashley in Hawaii!! Broc has never been there so I'm more than excited for him to see where why my family has been obsessed with it. My Grandpa Wade was the President of BYUH when I was a youngster so we spent many a summer days/weeks/months in the Hawaiian sun. I think that every Wade has a little ounce of Poly blood in them.
My Grandma swears she is a Hawaiian woman born in a white body.
Every night I write down a few things in a notebook of little things we can't forget to bring.
Last night I wrote "snorkeling gear" and "waterproof camera case".
We ordered this camera case on amazon a week or so ago and being anxious to try it,
Bryn and Lex helped me out in the pool.
I'm prepared for the next two weeks to by e-x-t-r-e-m-e-l-y slow.

Roos-n-more

A couple months ago a lady came into my work and while I was processing her transaction she started telling my co-workers and I about her weekend at Roos-n-more. Roos-n-more is a crazy awesome hands-on zoo in the middle of absolutely nowhere! Well Moapa Nevada to be more specific. After this woman left, I immediately looked it up on the internet. This place is only open a few random days a week so in February I wrote in my planner on May 30th that we would go. Broc and I have been stoked ever since. We decided to take Bryn and Lex with us and also our friend Devin. Roos-n-more is only about an hour away from St. George and well worth the trip. Some of the most exotic animals the world has to offer and it's all hands-on! We had a ball.
Check it out here!

I see trees of green

Broc's family has property on the east side of Zion Nation Park that he has spent his childhood weekends roughin it out. While he was on his mission his Grandpa H. Val replaced his trailer with a beautiful cabin and has been trying to get Broc and I to go up for some time now. Well this weekend finally allowed for a little vaca so we didn't hesitate at the thought. My family decided to join us. I was amazed at how beautiful everything was. Broc has described this place to me for years. We had a fantastic time 4-wheeling, cuddling on couches, roasting giant marshmallows, watching humming birds for hours, playing 6 man rook and just kickin back for a couple days.
Man what a wonderful world.

Sage

Broc's baby sister Sage is graduating High School this week!
And it is blowing both of our minds.
We were just talking about how it's been
4 YEARS
since Broc and I graduated High School. It seemed like just yesterday.

Sage was just twelve years old when I met her and she has grown into a beautiful girl!
Broc and I consider ourselves so lucky to have her as a sister!
Congrats Sage! We love you!

The party of the year!

Cindy's 35th birthday was celebrated on saturday and it was camp rocked out! We played camp rock bingo, watched Cindy, Joe, and Caroline show off their moves to Jonas Brothers songs, and enjoyed good food and Heidi's honey cheese cake! Nothing beat the smile on Cindy's face when she opened the Zack Efron poster that Broc and I gave her though. It was priceless. She's a light in our families lives and we love celebrating her!
Happy Birthday Cindy!!!!
